The Taylor NS74ce has a western red cedar top and Indian rosewood back and sides in a grand auditorium body style. The NS74ce is the premier Taylor take on the classical guitar design, but with a bit of twist.
Think of it as classical tone meets Taylor playability, beginning with a slim and fast 1 7/8" neck, a cutaway body, and Fishman Prefix Pro Blend Electronics.
When people talk about the Taylor sound, knowingly or not they're probably describing the Grand Auditorium. Introduced in 1994 as a limited edition to commemorate Taylor's 20th Anniversary, the GA would go on to establish itself as a definitive Bob Taylor original.
Tonally, the guitar embodied the signature qualities of balance, clarity, and versatility that became hallmark Taylor traits. Visually, the shape gave the world an equally balanced and refined aesthetic of smooth curves.
Play a GA if: You want the Swiss Army Knife of acoustics, capable of handling everything from fingerpicking to medium strumming to moderate flatpicking.

If I were to rate the Taylor NS74ce Classical Guitar strictly as a classical guitar, I would lower the rating to about an 8.0 or even to 8.5, but as a cross-over type guitar with electronics added, I have decided to give it a solid 9.0 rating.
As to be expected in a typical American made classical guitar the treble notes are a bit weak. They do not have the brightness and power that I have come to expect with the classical guitars from Spain.
That being said, this guitar sounds incredible when it is in the acoustic/electric environment in which it was designed - and that is plugged in. All of a sudden the strings come to life and you get beautiful highs and lows from this instrument. Very impressive.
Action on this guitar is Taylor quality all the way through. It played beautiful right out of the case. Great fingerstyle guitar that plays easily, has perfect intonation and harmonics. Enough Said.
This guitar, being of again Taylor quality, exhibits a little more durability that a standard Spanish Classical Guitar. Perhaps that is one reason that it lacks some of the tonal qualities of its Spanish brethren.
With a Cedar top however, you are still dealing with a very soft wood and just a casual bump or brush against a table edge, music stand or chair arm could result in damage. So be careful with this guitar.
Be sure to register your Taylor NS74ce Classical Guitar. If you treat your guitar right you will be able to keep it in great playing condition for a long time. The biggest enemy of a hollow body acoustical guitar is the lack or the excess of humidity in the air. If you develop problems, a Taylor repair center will take care of you.
