Nine Pound Hammer PartA Tab - Advanced Fingerstyle:

Hang on to your hair on this song. This is a blazing hot fingerstyle guitar piece that Chet plays on the classical guitar. This song is very popular with the flatpick guitar set and Chet Atkins very successfully brings it to the fingerstyle guitar with this arrangement of Black Mountain Rag.

True Bluegrass InstrumentalsMerle Travis - Nine Pound Hammer: Merle popularized this song as a great fingerpicking song. Chet Atkins had a great version of it, which is unfortunately not available any longer. This tab is based on Chet's version but has a lot of simularities to the Travis Version Nine Pound Hammer.

Nine Pound Hammer, So Round So Firm So Fully Packed, Will The Circle Be Unbroken, No Vacancy, Sixteen Tons, Dark As A Dungeon, Divorce Me C.O.D., You'll Be Lonesome Too, Blues Stay Away From Me, T For texas, Too Much sugar For A Dime, If We Never Meet Again, I'll See You In My Dreams, John Henry, and Muskrat. !

True Bluegrass InstrumentalsDoc Watson Remembering Merle - Nine Pound Hammer: This CD also has a great version of Nine Pound Hammer on it which is played by Doc's late son Merle, who was quite a fingerstyle artist in his own right. You will find many similarities in this break to the Travis break as well.

1. Frosty Morn, Omie Wise, Frankie & Johnny, Honey Babe Blues, St. James Infirmary, Nine Pound Hammer, Summertime, New River Train, Black Mountain Rag, Blue Suede Shoes, Wayfaring Stranger, Thoughts of Never

You will find lots of other great fingerstyle arrangements in this CD and of course Doc's flatpicking is one of the best and cleanest styles out there. So this album is a must for your guitar CD collection.

PartA

Nine Pound Hammer PartA Tab: First of all the differences between Travis Style and Atkins Style fingerstyle: Merle played mostly with his RH Thumb and Index Finger while Chet used the Thumb, Index, Middle and Ring fingers, which conformed more toward the traditional classical style. As a result of this Merle's sound sounds a bit choppier than that of Chet, but I like them both.

In this Part A version, we concentrate of the first half of the song. It is a pretty straight fingersytle song, but it still will present some real challenges for you. This version that I have put together is kind of a cross between Travis, Atkins and Watson. Good luck with this one. I'm sure you will have a lot of fun with it.

PartB

Nine Pound Hammer PartB Tab: This break finished the song for the B part. The hardest part of this break is that it is played in the 5th and 6th positions and utilizes a fair amount of open strings while playing in the postions. This will give the guitar almost a harp-like sound is traditional Atkins style of playing.

Watch your chord positions very carefully to be able to play this break profeciently, as this is of the utmost importance to master this break.

Memorize Your Ultimate Guitar Tab:

Make sure to memorize your songs. What is the easiest way to do this? Unless you have perfect pitch, you will have to learn one section or measure at a time. Once you can play flawlessly move on to the next measure and add it to what you have memorized. Continue this and make sure you can play the first half of the song, including the second ending.

Once you have the first half memorized, move on to the second half, doing the same thing with the second half of the song.
