Jose Ramirez S1 Classical Guitar Standard is built with typical Ramirez care and detail. The top of this classical guitar is solid German Spruce with back and sides constructed of solid Mangoy from Africa.
The German Spruce of the Jose Ramirez S1 has fairly close grain and also some figuring within the grain, excluding this top from being classified premium or AAA. All wood in this guitar is carefully chosen and is aged for a minimum of 2 years before it is turned into lumber and used for the guitars.
The Fustero Tuners are typical Ramirez quality and provide a great solid feeling. Rounded out with bone saddle in a solid East Indian Rosewood bridge and a bone nut, make for a great intermediate guitar player's prize instrument.
The combination of tone woods used in this guitar give it good character and the notes played in the lower register are very good. This guitar has the typical Ramirez, Spanish Guitar "sound" and projects very well. I would assume this will be a great-sounding guitar as it ages and is properly "played-in".
As always with any Ramirez, the craftsmanship of the Jose Ramirez S1 is obviously almost perfect throughout. The wood used is of the highest quality and beauty. There are no flaws apparent anywhere other than the slight figuring in the top. This is the reason Ramirez guitars command such respect worldwide. They are equal parts musical instruments and works of art. The action of this guitar is perfect as shipped and I would not make any changes in action.

All classical guitars are quite fragile and should not be abused, but this guitar is made in a shop that is free of humidity and that will help guard against cracks due to poor humidity control. With this as well as any quality guitar, insure that humidity is kept as constant as possible with humidifiers in the winter and de-humidifiers in the summer.
The neck of the Jose Ramirez S1 is constructed of Spanish Cedar, (which is my favorite). This wood is very lightweight and extremely strong and resists string tension very well. A bit of a disappointment is the lack of the traditional Ramirez Ebony center reinforcement strip down the center of the neck.
Ramirez is a quality luthier and stands behind any defects in their instruments. They also have a large network of distributors and they stand behind their products. If no abuse is involved, your guitar will be repaired without any question. Also all vendors listed herewith will give you an additional warranty on these fine instruments.
If you have been looking for a quality classical at a reasonable price, then this Jose Ramirez S1 will be a great fit for you. Great sound, excellent quality, and a very affordable price. How they managed to get a guitar this good into this price point of the Jose Ramirez S1 questionable, but be thankful they did.
Obviously, if money is not a consideration a Ramirez Concert Grade guitar is the better choice than the Jose Ramirez S1 for classical guitarists. Now, thanks to models like this, Ramirez is also the best choice when cost is a factor.
Being that the Jose Ramirez S1 is built from fine woods that are solid and not plywood, the wood is book matched perfectly and the guitar is put together with care, you can plan that this guitar will age very nicely and have a great voice in years to come.
I would highly recommend the Jose Ramirez S1 guitar to the intermediate or a semi-pro, looking to move up.
