You will be stunned by the richness of the Gibson ES 137 when you first open the case. All finished items are near perfection. The only minor things I saw were a couple of minor finishing issues that I could easily repair myself. If left as is, they would not be noticed by the majority of people.
I love the color variations available in this model and you can most certainly find a color combination to suit your personal taste.
Tuning machines operate smoothly and effortlessly for easy dead-on tuning and string changes.
I would prefer a solid Ebony fingerboard to the Rosewood. Ebony is denser, smoother and faster - far more resistant to fingernail gouges.
The quality of sound output from the Humbucker pickups on the Gibson ES 137 will give a very wide range of tones from jazz to rock, driving country to mellow rock, this guitar has it all.
The Gibson ES 137 plays good as delivered. If your preference is lower action, adjustment with the Tune-O-matic bridge is a cinch. As I like very low action, I would lower the strings at the nut just a bit. See my article on Action Adjustment for directions to do this easily and professionally.
The Gibson ES 137 is very durable. From the plywood body construction the to trussed neck this guitar will take a lot of abuse.

The Gibson ES 137 was the first Gibson Electric Guitar to employ a mahogany center block to reduce feedback and increase sustain levels. You will find out that this guitar has a very "fat" tone and great sustain as soon as you plug it into your favorite amplifier.
The curly maple body of the and neck of the Gibson ES 137 is beautiful, along with a great selection of colors that make up this beautiful guitar.
The Gibson ES-137 Humbucker pickups perform flawlessly and gives this guitar amazing sound and versatility. The sound is clean and great for jazz and mellow rock and very able to handle those Les Paul licks!
If you are a serious music student or professional guitarist, this guitar will more than meet anything you want to tackle. I give it very high marks
